Course Outline

The course will cover the following subject areas:


1.   Introduction to the FNMP and MMP

2.   Soil types, main nutrient cycles and soil analysis including the need for pH & organic matter maintenance

3.   Environmental risks from nutrients and their application

4.   Organic nutrient sources and their production, storage and application to comply with environmental and other legislation       
5.   The SNS index

6.   Fertiliser recommendation systems and their application

7.   Crop Removals

8.   Producing the nutrient balance sheet, practical exercise

9.   Organic waste storage

10.  Record keeping

11.  Summary

Course Aim:


To ensure optimisation of crop nutrient input and usage it is in a grower’s interest to produce a Farm Nutrient Management Plan  (FNMP) and a Manure Management Plan (MMP).  The production of a FNMP and MMP will demonstrate that best practice is being used to comply with current, and future, Legislation and Codes of Practice.  The aim of this course is educate delegates on the need, the information required and the way in which a FNMP and MMP may be prepared. At the end of the course delegates will be able to produce a FNMP and the Manure Management Plan.
